The Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is an epic journey for both spiritual and adventure seekers. This journey of Mount Kailash Mansarovar takes us to the most legendary travel destinations in the world. Both Mt Kailash and Lake Mansarovar have been a religious sanctuary since pre-Buddhist times. As such, it attracts hundreds of pilgrims from around the world.
The kora (circumambulation/circuit/parikrama) around mount Kailash is one of the most important pilgrimages in Asia. Pilgrims of Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, and Bon believe that one kora around Mt. Kailash cleanses sins of this lifetime; 108 koras breaks the cycle of rebirth and assures one of nirvana at death. And the Lake Manasarovar is believed to clean one’s annoyances when he is rinsed by the water.
Mt. Kailash kora is 52km long, usually takes three days to complete. Altitude ranges from 4,675m at Darchen, the starting point to 5,630m at Drolma-la, the highest point of the kora. The Hindus and Buddhists do the kora in a clockwise direction but followers of the Jain and Bön take a counterclockwise.
The best time for the Mt Kailash and Mansarovar Yatra is from mid-May to mid-October. However, snow could be encountered on the Drolma-la pass at any time of year. The temperature will often drop well below freezing at night, even during the summer months.
This 18-day epic journey takes you to fascinating destinations of Kathmandu in Nepal and base of Mt Kailash plus Lake Mansarovar.
