Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most famous mountain treks in the world. The journey takes us closer to the highest point on earth. This incredible Everest Base Camp trek starts with a short adventurous flight to mountain airstrip in Lukla. The trail to Everest Base Camp passes through mountain villages, Buddhist shrines, alpine forests and glacial rivers. So, this is a beautiful journey to enjoy authentic natural and cultural beauty of the Everest region. It is a lifetime experience to enjoy the Everest massifs up close with an indescribable sight.
Although it is a tough journey, the views and experience from the beginning to the end is inspirational and breath-taking. The natural beauty in combination with the cultural essence is memorable. After more than 10 days of walk, enjoying the top of the world right in front of our eyes is an achievement in itself. The trek to EBC, which stands at at an altitude of 5364m, can be challenging but very rewarding for the sense of achievement.
Throughout the journey, the beautiful Himalayas won’t leave your sight. The spectacular mountains embellish the skyline creating an ethereal beauty. Walking through the woodlands, rhododendron forests and suspension bridges we move through steep ridge lines. You’ll visit popular overnight stops such as Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche and Gorakshep. Each village represents unique cultural significance and spectacular mountain views. Striding further the path, stupas, gumbas, chortens and colourful prayer flags greet us, giving spiritual boost to our journey.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu airport, you will meet our staff and transfer to Hotel. After short rest, we will visit the Swayambhunath Temple, said to be 2500 years old stupa on a hillock, which offers a breath-taking view of Kathmandu City and the Sunset view. This Stupa is the oldest of its kind in Nepal, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Monument Listed in 1979. Next, we will visit historic Kathmandu Durbar Square (Hanuman Dhoka) if you are lucky, you will be able to have a glance of the famous living Goddess Kumari. In the evening, a typlical Nepalese welcome dinner will be served with traditional cultural show. After dinner you will be able to prepare for Everest Base Camp trek & or buy necessary stuffs for your trek or stroll along the busy street of Thamel, the main tourist hub in Kathmandu. Overnight stay at hotel.
After breakfast, we take a spectacular 30min. flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, perched at 9400ft (2865m) in the Khumbu region of Eastern Nepal. The flight is bound to be one of the most exhilarating you will ever take. Much of it is only a few thousand feet above ground and the views of the terraced landscape, winding river and valleys below, as well as the closeness of some of the world’s highest mountains make it a truly memorable experience. In Lukla, the porters load up and we proceed to Phakding (2,650m), an easy afternoon’s scenic walk to Phakding. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Today, we'll have a relatively long and slight steep climb up trek to the town of Namche Bazaar (3,440m), the main trading centre for Khumbu region and the gateway town for Mt Everest. The climb is, however, made easier by the distractions offered by the magnificent forests of blue pine, fir, juniper and rhododendron as well as our first views of Mt. Everest and other Himalayan peaks. Overnight stay in Namche Bazaar.
Acclimatization day at Namche. This day can be spent relaxing at Namche, exploring the tiny shops in the bazaar and the local museum with exhibits of the flora, fauna, and history of the Everest region. You can also participate in an optional hike to some of the Sherpa villages nearby, such as Kunde, Khumjung, or walk to Thame, and experience culture and lifestyle of legendary Sherpa people, who are known globally for their strength, endurance and bravery in the climbing fraternity.
Morning visit to the colourful market, where local and Chinese goods (brought over through high passes from Tibet) can be seen and purchased. We then head for Tengboche, along a trail with spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Kantaiga, and AmaDablam. Our campsite is at Tengboche (12700ft) one of the most impressive locations on earth and site of the region’s most important Buddhist monastery (faithfully rebuilt since the 1989 fire). We will have the opportunity to explore the monastery and see monks at prayer.
Today 4-5 hour walking. Upon arrival Dingbuche, short excursion up the Imja Khola valley to Chukkung to get a marvellous view of the surrounding mountains, especially Lhotse’s massive south wall. This is the second of our important acclimatization days, and it can be spent in Dingboche relaxing by the village stream enjoying scenic views of AmaDablam. Overnight stay at Dingbuche.
Aclimatize day at Dingbuche. Day trip to Pheriche and return to Dingboche for overnight stay.
It is a short but steep climb up to Lobuche (16175ft, 4930m), which is really just a few huts at the foot of giant Lobuche peak. Again the views are spectacular and the sunset on Nuptse, towering directly ahead of Lobuche is especially impressive.
This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek. Most of this day is spent climbing Mt. Kala Patthar, a small peak (by Himalayan standards) at 18200ft, 5545m. The ascent is demanding but the climber gets the most magnificent mountain panorama possible: Everest, the highest point on the planet at 29028ft, 8848m, towers directly ahead and on all sides loom the other giants, Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and countless others. If possible we can stay and watch the awe-inspiring sunset on Everest and its neighbours. We make a quick descent to GorakShep, a tiny hamlet at 16950ft, 5170m, where we stay for the night.
On this day we walk along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp at 17600ft, 5380m. , the closest you can get to Mt. Everest without mountaineering equipment. There will likely be a team there about to attempt the summit. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is spectacular. We return to Labuche for overnight.
From Upper Pangboche, we descend to join the main trail above Tengboche and continue on down to Khumjung village.
From Khumjung we continue our descend via Namche to Jorsalle. Today's hike is all the way downhill, and arrive at tiny mountain village of Jorsalle for overnight stay.
An easy day’s walk brings us back to Lukla for our final night in the Khumbu.
After breakfast, we take flight back to Kathmandu. Free and leisure for own activities overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.
